Dear all, due to the current advice from the government, regarding Covid-19, we have made the decision to postpone both the Junior and Senior Friday night club sessions until mid-April, when the situation will then be reviewed again.
This follows the postponement of the Northampton Badminton League matches and has been made with the safety of our members as the priority.
Stay safe and please keep an eye out for further updates.
Some close games which unfortunately had the team coming out on the wrong side of the result.
A fantastic recovery from Pawel and Chris after losing an end 28-26 to then comeback and with that game overall. A good performance from the youngsters who really forced the opposition to be on form. Debut from Matt J who stepped up and was able to hold his own against tough opposition.
First win for our mixed team last week in the return match against Duston. It was keenly contested with many of the matches being taken to three ends and very close scores.
All pairings showed great determination and played really well. A fantastic, well-deserved result that may save us from relegation!
Doubles vs Duston: 6-3
Men’s A vs Pyghtle: 4-5
Ladies vs Thrapston: 0-6
Mixed vs Kettering: 0-9
Mixed vs Towcester B: 0-9
Ladies vs Apollo: 5-1
Mixed vs Towcester B: 0-9
Ladies vs Market Harborough: 5-1
Doubles vs Towcester C: 3-6
Mixed vs Towcester A: 0-9
The reverse fixture of the first match of the season for the doubles team was met with fierce opposition. Despite all of the games being close we found ourselves on the wrong side of each and finished losing 9-0. Unlucky to those who played and hopefully a better result in the next match.
Our ladies team travelled up to Market Harborough last week for their match. The games were very close and everyone was playing well.
After all the games had been played the score was a draw, 3-3. Unfortunately, to settle the match, it came down to games, from which we lost 6-7.
It was a super close game and we are determined to shift the balance our way at the return match and get the win.
Well played team!
This week the Men’s A played away at Central where, like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates, you never know what you’re going to get. Their best player was out injured which gave us belief that we had a good chance.
Some unfamiliar faces on their team meant that we had to focus on playing our game. Kyle and Mikee beat the first pair to set the tone then Matt and Rob then Ian and Russell beat their opposite numbers to start 3-0. Kyle and Mikee then beat the second pair 4-12, 11-21 to send a message to the others that we are not a team to be messed with. Matt and Rob then beat their 3rd pair to make it 5 games from nine and the win was sealed. The Central 1st pair then beat Ian and Russell the get one back but that was all the glory they could find as we then went on to win the last three games to seal an 8-1 win.
Man of the match goes to Kyle who has come new to the team and with a new partner has won five out of six games. Onwards and upwards. Tough game coming soon with Pyghtle being joint favourites for promotion.
The return match for our ladies, at home against Kettering, our ladies got the win!
After many closely fought games and brilliant badminton, Mereway were able to win the match 4-2. This is a fantastic result for the team and all of the players showed great determination and effort, especially in matches that were taken to 3 ends.
A great night of brilliant games and a fantastic result!
It was a tough loss for the ladies who travelled away to play Kettering. The final score was 6-0 to a very strong opposition.
Our team put in a lot of effort but the games unfortunately did not go our way. Although the match was difficult, the ladies showed great attitude and were very committed to putting in a good performance.
Well done team – on to the next one!
The reverse fixture of the first match saw a stronger Kettering team playing at home but thankfully we took probably the strongest team we could including two debuts from Kyle and Chris coming up from the Juniors via the B team.
Kettering started strong with an experienced pair winning the first game against Kyle and Mikee, but that was their first competitive encounter and they went on to win their other two. An excellent performance from the experienced pair of Matt and Rob saw them winning all three of their games and with Harry and Chris also winning two of three we ran out 7-2 winners.
The man of the match had to be Chris who played brilliantly with Harry and was buzzing on the car journey home.
