Sixth Win This Season For Doubles Team

The Doubles team recorded their sixth win of the season on Friday March 22nd at home Vs Brixworth. The final result of 7-2 doesn’t tell the whole story, with 6 of the 9 games going to a deciding third end and one game finishing 29-27! Strong debut performances from juniors Ed Baldwin and Dylan Patel a particular highlight.

Well done to all – promotion remains a possibility…

Doubles Team Bounce Back

The Doubles team recently experienced two matches in quick succession, with somewhat different results.

The first was an encounter at Towcester Sports Hall where the team suffered a 9-0 defeat to Towcester Titans – a score line that didn’t do the performance justice, with some close games recorded. The second match four days later saw the team win 8-1 against Northampton Nighthawks, with the best game of the night going to Jonathan & Matthew Joy who plucked defeat from the jaws of victory, eventually losing in an extremely close game with a mere 6 points separating the pairings over the 3 ends played.

The team continues it’s mid table standing.

Another Win For Our Mens Doubles Team

Our Mens Doubles ‘A’ team had another win this week in the Northamptonshire league, despite a weakened side due to injuries and holidays. The result, at home to Kettering ‘B’, was 8-1.

Special mention must go to Michael Kinder who filled in at short notice and won two out of his three games.

The ‘A’ team have still only lost one match all season, away at Bugbrooke, a result that we turned around at home. There are two matches left this season against a hot Duston team that always gives us a hard game. A win in at least one of these two remaining matches would give us a great chance of promotion. Win them both and we’re sure to go up.

Recent Mixed Doubles Success

The Mereway Badminton Club Northampton Mixed Doubles team have recently enjoyed success in back-to-back fixtures against Wellingborough Northampton Road ‘B’.

The first game was away on Monday 28 January. After five of the nine rubbers the match was balanced at 2-3 in favour of Mereway. Then the team went on to win three of the last four rubbers to establish a final result of 3-6 to Mereway.

The return fixture was played eleven days later at home. This time we won four of the first five rubbers with all three pairs winning their opening games against their opposite numbers, giving us a great start. The final result was a very comfortable 7-2 to Mereway.

These results mean that the mixed team is in a really strong position having won all of its matches so far this season, and having now played all the other teams in the division at least once promotion back to the 1st division is our target.
